Video Tutorial subject: Mastering in Cubase + Plugins

Hey,

I am interested in mastering since some digital labels expect that the producer takes care of the mastering him/herself. I don't want to release any unmastered productions and i don't want to pay someone else for it.

It would be cool to have some Video tutorials about mastering on a ""bedroom" setup. So not that you need expansive hardware. Just some nice payable/free/standard in cubase plugins.

And maybe you got some tips for my mixdown. I currently work with reason but i ordered cubase 4. I have a little feeling that my kicks lack some dept but i'm not really sure about it.

you could just send your track to Jesse for a master?

It's a pretty resonable price for the experience he has and quality you get in return

Might be an option. 30 euro for a master is a fair price.

But getting the producing + dj ing gear (software, hardware, samples, gear) costs me enough already. So if the label wont pay for the mastering.. i don't want it either really.
And i'm not sure if i get a nice amount of money for digi releases to pay for all that.

I also want to learn it myself. Its interesting i think. Im also planning to start my own label in a year or so. I want to do the mastering myself then.
Then i have complete control over the sound and sound quality.

I also heard/read that a proper mixdown doesn't need that much of mastering anyways.

I just think that many people are interested in mastering vids without the need of expansive gear/plugins (waves cost a **** lot).

Maybe not allways for the final product, but to mix selfmade tracks in a dj set. Or to make a demo cd come out more pro sounding.


In the end.. an experienced masterer like Jesse would be needed to get the optimal sound.

Hi welcome to the forum and glad you liked the workshop.

You are right in that a proper mixdown doesn't need any or just subtle mastering and this is where you should first concentrate. I think many people are putting the cart before the horse when trying to master before they really mix as well as they could have.

As far as mastering videos I have thought of this but with mastering a lot of it is all down to the ear. The techniques themselves are really not any different than mixing, only you are working with stems or a stereo file. So this is something hard to teach as it's more about being able to identify problems than anything.

I will put some more thought into it though and maybe I can think of a good solution.
