Question Using a ghost kick for sidechaining when no kick is playing?

Hello all new to the board. Good friends with 13 and he mentioned this forum.

I've got a question about sidechaining with a ghost kick. My sidechaining is going fine using Compadre Beatpuncher which I love, but I need to have a ghost kick sidechaining the bassline, for like breakdowns where the bassline is playing, but no actual kick. I tried a muted kick, no dice. I still want the bassline to sound sidechained during these breakdowns or whatever, so I've read you can make a silent ghost kick that still sidechains the bass? From the reading around I've done, I guess the Waves Comp1 can do it?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

There are a few ways to do that. One thing is to not mute the ghost kick track for the sidechain but don't route it to any outputs. I don't use Compadre but presume that there is a way to select a key or sidechain input?

Mangus,

I use the free sidekick plugin (although I did buy Compadre as part of a bundle with Otium's Sontifex)

Anyways I just loaded up Sx3 to have a look at how this is done and actually haven't got the problem you described, in fact the opposite exists.

I created a track with an audio kick. Then made a Quadro group and inserted compadre on this. I then went to the pan section of the kick track and dragged the panner 'down' so it was occupying the bottom half of the "quadrant' area.

When doing so the kick disappeared from the mix and just shows up in the sidechain. This is because the output of the kick is sent only to the quad group channel, not the main mix though so makes sense.

Here's a pic of it, you can see I pasted the output area on here as well.
