Default Sony BMG to drop DRM

Looks like after a lot of complaining Sony is finally getting rid of the annoying DRM copy scheme to make it easier to use purchased songs.

Im very interested to see if Apple drops theirs anytime soon or if they'll continue to milk it for all its worth now that they have such a huge corner on the market, both on the software/downloads and the hardware side.

I would bank on Apple to not do what all the others are doing, so I'd be surprised if they drop it.

The might have a bit of competition soon though. Vivendi Universal is dropping their licensing agreement with Apple (although I'm not sure what this entails exactly). They might team up with BMG and Warner to create a new digital download store that's subscription based (I've read reports that people respond to this better than ala carte'). Figures show that the industry makes $10 a month on subscription based services for music downloads compared to $1-$2 a month for iTunes buyers.

I wish Beatport would follow suit. They're killing my bank account.
