I have a stupid question, these 3 presets... what are they useful for? I believe the one called SSL master is for the master bus? how about the others called "emulate' ?
thx

Zeb,

No not stupid at all..There are actually 2 ssl ones, one does say emulate and the other master but I believe they are both really master bus emulations. The 3rd one though has stumped me a bit as well. I think its more of just a general 2buss application without some of the more specific ssl settings.

I did a little research onf GS to try and find an explanation from Paul but couldnt. I did find out that I had actually converted these presets back in 2007 when the native one first came out tho hehe. And also Paul has a new plugin out, Mac only though:

I wonder, since Im kinda new to mixing... how these presets SSL and the G and Master differ from the ones I already have that came in with the native AU Dynamics preset folder.
Also do these SSL presets make the Sonnox Dynamics comparable to lets say the Duende and Waves SSL?
I work exclusevely with dance music, Vengeance sounds and Vst, so as you might know the Vengeance sounds are already very compressed and need very little tweaking.... does the SSL sound apply for my needs?

Zeb,

I did a little more looking and I think I know where to go to find more info on what Paul was aiming for. But the general idea was that someone was posting comparisons between SSL plugins and the real hardware. Paul Frindle designed the real SSL consoles so he knows how the compressors and other components work obviously. What he did was then make presets to stack up against the rest of the examples taken from plugins and hardware SSL devices.

The one thing the Sonnox doesn't have that the SSL plugs do is the auto release mode. Not sure how much this is going to affect your results. I will go over the comparisons more myself to see what the differences were. I do know in one case where the Sonnox dynamics was compared against the EL Fatso the Sonnox was choosen more to sound like hardware/analog than the Fatso was (which is hardware).

Yes the Vengance stuff is already pretty compressed so you have to be careful there. Depends how much of those libraries you are using in judging how much compression to use. But I would go easy on it for sure. I use the SSL presets here for a slight gluing of the mix and it works really well.
