Other music, inspirations, anything beside electronic dance music that you like
This is theoretically totally offtopic, but i guess everyone has a genre of music that he loves to listen besides electronic music,it gives him inspiration,or just enlarges our music horizons.
What are yours?
Personally i love all those fortepiano, piano stuff from yann tiersen
here is an example

Just perfect.
Also recently some stuff from depeche mode, some uplifting stuff from U2 like beautifull day.
I also love Largo music (prooved that it is calming/healing etc ,used intechnically advanced hospitals, puts your body somehow in a good vibe)
Especially i can play on and on Air on the G string

Overall this interestment towards bit of classic stuff causes the fact that in music i love so much when meldoy is bit complicated, with lots of synthesizers
etc.
And i love to roll in car with a classic rock and roll songs from bands like twisted sisters etc

Seconded on the 80s stuff. Depeche mode was prob the first riff I ever played on my juno 106 back in high school. Also huge new order fan, big reason I got into making music. Was really into the manchester bands of late 80s early 90s too, like Slowdive and Ride, Stone Roses etc..
Only contempory artists I really listen to are Radiohead and Burial. Been listening to a lot of italo disco stuff recently.
Other than that influence wise late 80s early 90s hiphop, and then 70s soul, funk.

Have to agree with the lads, Depeche Mode, New Order, The Cure and even some industrial or hard dance stuff like Ministry, Front 242 and Skinny Puppy, who really explored and experimented with electronic music like no other back in the 80s.
Listened to some metal back in the day so I can relate. My first two albums were Iron Maiden Number of the Beast and Judas Priest Defenders of the Faith. Then really dug Neurosis and Sepultura later on.
On the more mellow side, Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dream. If you want to hear some examples of great production techniques listen to Floyd's Momentary Lapse of Reason.
For Hip Hop I'd have to say Outkast (can't live in Atlanta without getting into them) and early Jay Z and Dr. Dre.

My first foray into music was actually a Misfits cover band but I soon moved over to House when I stepped into a big club for the first time.

exactly like me.
100% same story.
I was curious with friends to step in into club music, check how it looks from inside, and boom,it started.I remember it how it was.IMy first huge party in great club, which we have few in my city. Heard one superb dj rocking dancefloor in really good club with great vibe and atmosphere. He was blending house music with premade loop of prodigy song.He used this trick often. And it totally smashed me this night. Then i was browsing on my own in order to find what is my real taste in electronic dance music, and it dragged me deeper nad deeper, and now we are here
