I'm viewing the forums through Safari as well and haven't seen any problems with load times.

I do experience a bit of a delay longer than usual to be honest. I'm using the same forum software and have not experienced this at all. I'd say it lies with your hosting company. Can be the only explanation. Imagine what would happen if you had 100 users on at the same time? Perhaps you could reconfigure the rate at which refreshing takes place? Just a suggestion of what it could be. But looking really good otherwise, well done with the design. Love it.
